Sheng wu lou (縄武楼) is one of my favorite tulous (Hakka earthen building)
among the Fujian tulou cluster (福建土楼) that I visited during this trip.

The whole architecture were ornate with beautiful wood cravings
but it’s really sad to see most of it in a really bad state now.
No one is living there now except an old couple.

The other Tulous (Hakka earthen buildings) that I visited during this trip
were quite well preserved but not this one.
I wonder why?

It’s such a waste to see such a beautiful architecture
became derelict over time…

衍香楼 (Yanxianglou) is one of well preserved Hakka earthen buildings
in Yongding country (永定), Fujian.

Yanxianglou (衍香楼) was built in 1880 by Su Guchun (苏谷春) .
Can you imagine this building is more than 130 years old!!
Su Guchun’s family was very poor when he was young but after his middle age,
he started to engage in tobacco business and earned a fortune.
He build Yang xiang lou from the money he made from his successful business.

The main body of the whole building measures 40 meters in diameter.
1.5-meter-thick bottom walls,
0.7-meter-thick crown walls as well as the 14.5-meter-high walls,
Yanxianglou has a gate, 2 water wells, 3 halls and 4 sets of staircases.
It consists of 4 floors, each floor with 34 rooms,
a total of 136 rooms in Yanxianglou.

p/s: I can’t believe I have this post sleeping in my draft folder
for more than 2 years…
Actually I visited more than 5 Hakka tulou during this trip.

I’ll try to share the others too.

TGIF :)

My brain is filled with Italian words now coz’
I’m reading the first part of “
Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Is it good?
hmm…It’s not a page turner…for me..
but I’m just at the first part… I hope the India & Bali chapters are more interesting.

Have you read any good books recently?
