Nagasaki Lantern Festival
長崎ランタンフェスティバル
Another batch of photos taken last year during the Lantern Festival in Nagasaki.
Nagasaki city, especially Chinatown is decorated with 15,000 lanterns (Chinese paper lanterns) and
paper ornaments of Chinese Zodiac Animals, Chinese gods during the Lantern Festival.
Other than these beautiful lanterns and paper ornaments, there are street & stage performances of
chinese acrobats, traditional chinese dance & music.

Nagasaki Confucius Shrine
(孔子廟 Kōshi-byō)

This Shrine dedicated to the Chinese philosopher Confucius was built in 1893. Those stone status which stands firmly outside the shrine are the followers of Confucius. Actually the building was severely damaged by atomic bomb on August 9, 1945. It was then restored and opened to the public in September 1967.
I was there during the Lantern festival in Nagasaki last year (2011). The Lantern Festival is one of the biggest yearly events in Nagasaki where Chinatown are brightly decorated with red lanterns and some very beautifully designed lanterns. If you’re planning to visit Nagasaki, I highly recommend you to go there during the Lantern festival, usually around Chinese New Year. The dates varies each year so make sure that you check their website first before making your holiday plans.
If you are interested to see more of the shrine, you can have a look at this youtube video here
