More pictures of my journey to see the first sunrise in 2011 :)
This is the platform of Keiyu line (京急線) Shinagawa station (品川駅).

I left my house at 4:07am, took the 4:19am train at my local station to Shingawa station
to catch this train that departs at 5am to Miura beach (三浦海岸) :0
Love how they decorated the train with New Year graphics :) Isn’t that bunny cute!?

Reached Miura beach station at 6:15am.

Walked to Miura beach which is just around 5 -10 minutes away from the station.

It was really cold and a lot of people were gathering around the bonfire…
My friend and I shared some kara age (唐揚げ・fried chicken) while waiting for the sunrise.
After waiting for some time…the sun finally shows its face :)
I’m not sure what time it happened!? :p
coz’ I was too excited shooting away that I totally forgot to check the time…

Once the sun came out, these guys took off their clothes & throw themselves in the water.
OMG. it must be freezing cold :o

Another group of guys doing the same thing!
That poor guy in the water got his boxer pants ripped off by this friends..oops..
What a way to start the new year! lol
Actually it’s my first time seeing the “first sunrise” (初日の出).
Also my first time seeing sunrise at the beach.
It was really nice.
Oh. btw. To go see the first sunrise of the year is something Japanese do during New Year.
What kind of tradition do you have in your country during New Year !?
Hatsuhinode (初日の出) is the first sunrise of the year. Before sunrise on January 1, people often drive to the coast or climb a mountain so that they can see the first sunrise of the new year.

It looks very beautiful and cold! I would love to have been there =)
It was really cold :o btw. Is there any famous place to see sunrise or sunset in Taiwan?
Woah.. Such a clear sky! Lucky! Happy New Year..
hi Shinya! A Happy New Year to you too :)
Wow! That’s dedication! 4am wake up call… but it was worth it, it seems.
hehehe. It’s totally worth it!!! Is there any nice place to see the sunrise over there?
Oh i would absolutely love to do this! Looks amazing! Happy new year!
Hi Kate! Happy New Year to you too! Maybe you should do it next year!? :)
What an amazing thing/tradition to do! I don’t know if I’d ever be able to wake up that early just to go see the sunrise- I think I’d just stay up all night after the count down. The pictures are gorgeous- I love that sunrise orangey color.
Happy New Year! In Thai, it’s Sawatde Pee-mai
Hi Tee :) Oh. Actually I stayed up until 2am watching TV and slept for 2 hours before leaving my apartment to see the sunrise :p
Thank you for the Happy New Year in Thai :)
how nice! I’m not a morning person so sunrise doesn’t mean much to me *lol* Maybe I should reconsider that! Is the train operating in special hour on new year day?
P.s. I can help you with packing! I’m really good at folding things :P
hehehe. Pat. I very much a morning person :) & yes. the trains service starts earlier on new years day compared to normal days.
p/s: hehehe… It would be nice if you could help me to pack but can’t afford to pay for your air tickets :p
oh, this looks so beautiful! now i really wish i had made plans to see the sunrise, anywhere really… next year, next year!
i love the last picture of your shadows~
Hi nana :) yes. you should definitely make plans to go see the first sunrise next year!!
What a lovely tradition! Wish I had a chance to catch such a beautiful sunset the first thing in 2011 too! Maybe my first day of work in 2011 would have started off better ……… XD
Hi Wen. oh… it’s actually sunrise…not sunset..:p I hope you’re not too overwhelmed by your work!? Ganbatte ne!
I meant sunrise! First thing in 2011 so it doesn’t make sense if it’s sunset :P
Thank you :)
hehe ok :) to go see the last sunset might be nice too :) maybe I should try it next year… hehe
wow, what a beautiful first sunrise! i didn’t know japan had this tradition, but it is a really lovely one.
i would have to skip jumping into the cold water though!
hi kitchu. oh. I think Korea also has the same tradition of seeing the first sunrise.
Those guys are crazy …I’m not sure if that is also a tradition :p
wah! what a good way to welcome 2011 ^_^
happy new year mk! thanks for your new year postcard, really love it!
i been to many seaside & islands but unfortunately never witness a really awesome sunrise :( either the cloud was too thick, or the place i stayed was facing west ^_^
Glad you like the new year postcard!! It’s my last time sending it from Japan :(
arhh… I think it’s luck! I don’t have much luck on weather too but the friends I’m with usually brings good weather with them :)
